Stitchworks were produced as part of my role in 'Killing Time', an installation and collaboration between artists Graham Fagen, Suspect Culture`s Graham Eatough, and Dundee Contemporary Arts. As one of eight performers in this installation, we were required to perform certain tasks during our presence on set. As`Woman in Garden`, one of my tasks was to do needlework , which developed into a series of thread and paper collages sewn onto embroidery rounds of muslin and newspaper pages which were being used on the set. The pieces are a response to the idea of killing time and how I chose to chanel the energy required to sustain a role for four hour periods on set, whilst being viewed continually in a public space. As I ran out of materials I then utilised my fellow performers props to enable me to continue to construct these works. This experience has given me the chance to evaluate the way I approach my work, and compelled me to use new materials, scale and methods. I now plan to develop this way of working both in parallel and in combination with my painting.
