2009 Seaview Primary School, Decorative Art panels, Monifieth

A collaboration with Wide Open Space, pupils, teachers and the architect to design a series of forty decorative perspex panels to be installed as part of the architectural vision for the new Seaview Primary School, Monifieth. The school and Angus Council were very keen to engage the pupils in the design process and therefore I created a portfolio of briefs that I delivered to primary 1-7 pupils and worked with them to produce a range of artworks that would then be incorporated into the final designs.

                2009 Seaview Nursery window artworks.

Following the successful installation of the perspex panels Wide Open Space and myself were then invited to produce further designs for the nursery windows in the new building, once again using the children's initial artworks as the catalyst for the designs.

                2009 Seaview Enterprise Project, Monifieth.

Working with Wide Open Space and Seaview primary to engage the staff and pupils in an enterprise project that involves the P6 pupils in creating small businesses to make and produce a range of sellable items using the designs produced for the decorative panels as a feature. This includes a Dragon's Den workshop with staff, pupils, Wide Open Space and myself.

2009 International Summer School of Scotland Masterclass St Andrews University

Invited to deliver a drawing masterclass to a group of international students, aged betwen 14 and 18, at the Internationl Summer School of Scotland, St Andrews.

                 2009 Juteopolis, Vision Building Dundee.

Juteopolis is a collaborative floor sculpture which I created in my capacity as council member of the Society of Scottish Artists. The SSA Annual show was held in the Vision Building, Dundee this year as apposed to the RSA buildings in Edinburgh where it is traditionally held. I wanted to acknowledge the Dundee context and at the same time create an artwork that the SSA membership could contribute to. All SSA members were given a 10cm x 10cm wooden cube on which to make a piece of work using jute as a loose starting point. Once completed, the cubes were placed together in the shape of a lade and exhibited at the Annual Show. The show attracted over 8000 visitors at the private view alone.

2009 Juteopolis at Verdant Works Dundee

Juteopolis has now been accepted into the permanent collection of Dundee Heritage Trust and will be exhibited next year at Verdant Works. There will be an educational programme attached to this exhibition run by myself on behalf of SSA and Verdant works.

2009 Juteopolis Interior StudentProject Duncan of Jordanstone College

Juteopolis was selected as a catalyst for 2nd year Interior & Environmental Design students to design an exhibition based on this theme. I acted as a client alongside Brian Kelly, Education Officer at Verdant Works and was involved in tutorial sessions and the final presentations.

2009 Jute Bag Project For Schools

I initiated the Jute Bag project which was delivered across primary and secondary schools in Dundee and Angus. This was a collaborative project and competition between myself, on behalf of SSA, and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art. I developed the brief and established sponsorship from The Natural Bag Company, Dundee. The pupils were asked to create a design for their jute bag which was based around the idea of bale marks which were used in the jute trade to identify the origins and quality of the jute. All the bags were judged and several prizes were awarded including the `Peoples Choice award` voted by the public. The Jute bag project was part of the submission from Duncan of Jordanstone to the Educational Events Awards, in relation to this years DOJ Graduates Show and the SSA Annual Exhibition. The submission won `Best Educational Event ` 2009

2005 - 2009 Eastern Primary School, Broughty Ferry.

I have worked on a series of arts projects over the past five years working with the pupils from primary 1, 3 and 6. These have included

P1. CLAYWORKS: using nature as the subject matter which were then assembled into a small mural.

P2. MIXED MEDIA: Photographing the local play park with the children using disposable cameras. The children were asked to focus on pattern and shape and unusual angles. The photos were developed and used as a starting point to create mixed media paintings which explored, colour, texture and pattern in the environment.

P3. COLLAGE: Creating a range of surfaces and paint effects using paint, glue, salt and found objects. These surfaces were then torn and cut into collage material which was then applied to card to make a bigger collage image. The pupils used landscape or portrait as their subject matter.

P6. JUTE BAG PROJECT: Initiating Jute Bag Project and working with pupils through discussion and listing of ideas to help them decide on their bale mark design.

2008 BARNHILL ST MARGARETS PLAYGROUP: Visiting Art specialist.
