Exquisite Corpse Studies with interior first year students at DJCAD

As an invited artists at the Interior programme at DJCAD, I led a number of drawing and mixed media workshops with first year interior students exploring their responses to visualising the figure in space. A key factor in this example was to develop a critical attitude about why design students 'drew' value from studying the body. This workshop, which follows concepts from the surrealist notion of the exquisite corpse, allowed an exploratory figure study to evolve out of a conventional starting point. Through figure drawing, themes of creative ownership were explored by involving four interior students to effectively 'build' and collaborate on the drawings shown here. This exercise also mirrors actual building processes and collective designing: an example is the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands.
